The DuckTales Finale

Tonight, 34 years after the original version first premiered, the reboot of DuckTales came to a close.   For most millennials, DuckTales was a staple of your after school routine.  And while this reincarnation was very different from the original, the nostalgia poured over for the last 4 years.

Sure, there were things we would have liked to have seen in this reboot such as more iconic Scrooge dives into the money bin, but overall this updated version created a show that was enjoyable for children and adults.  Unlike the original, Huey, Duey and Louie were given distinctive voices and personalities.  Webby had a starring role (especially in the finale), and David Tennat’s Scrooge McDuck was the perfect mix of humor and charm.

Oh and the cameos?  How about Don Cheadle as Donald Duck.  Lin Manuel-Miranda as Gizmoduck.  Allison Janney as Goldie O’Gilt.  And as great as the voice talents were, the Easter eggs each and every week had millennials point at their TV like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme.  In three seasons,  the writers managed to incorporate each show from The Disney Afternoon:  Chip & Dale Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Gummy Bears, and Darkwing Duck.

And while many were saddened to see this reboot come to an end, the truth is this is the natural path for most Disney animated series.  The original ran 4 years as well and 100 episodes.  The 2017 version ran 4 years and 69 episodes.  And while the series may not return to it’s original form, it’s not a stretch to think it can’t be brought back for a Disney+ special or even a movie.
