I’M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!  

For decades,  football fans have heard this familiar cry from the Super Bowl MVP.  It has become a tradition as familiar as the game itself to see the MVP lead the “3PM Parade” at the Magic Kingdom. For years, the “I’m Going to Disney World” proclamation was filmed and featured as a commercial for the Walt Disney World Resort.

The commercial would begin with When You Wish Upon a Star playing over highlights from the Super Bowl.  The NFLer would be asked the question by the commercial’s narrator (Detroit Pistons radio voice Mark Champion).

                    You just won the Super Bowl, what are you going to do next?  

This year, Disney upped the ante.  Instead of a commercial and a voiceover, the MVP ceremony was sponsored by Disney Parks.  Disney also made a $1,000,000 donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation and invited a Make-A-Wish guest to join this year’s MVP Patrick Mahomes in the parade.

Mahomes was also asked “What he was going to do next” during the presentation of the Vince Lombardi trophy last night by Terry Bradshaw.  Disney has now enhanced their presence during the Big Game as a centerpiece of the trophy presentation.  The Walt Disney Co. already cuts a $1billion check each year to the NFL as their rights fee for Monday Night Football and other NFL related programming.  It’s unclear if this new post-Super Bowl feature is part of that contract or a new and separate deal.  

If you’re down at the Magic Kingdom today, make sure you are lined up along Main Street USA to see the newest football superstar standing alongside Mickey Mouse.
